Role: Art Lab Intern
Timeline: September 2024 - May 2025

The Art Lab Commission at the University of California, Irvine aims to foster a safe, inclusive environment where students feel free to create to their heart’s content.
Whether it’s through a poem, a painting, or a music video, UCI’s talented Anteaters have shown time and time again how important the arts are to their identities and how the field is here to stay. Yet in a highly STEM-driven environment like UCI, the arts are often left out of the conversation. The Art Lab Commission hopes to bridge that disparity and create opportunities for the arts to thrive on campus.
The Art Lab Commission will also be responsible for curating the virtual Art Lab on the ASUCI website, highlighting the amazing kinds of art our Anteaters are capable of creating – from paintings and poems to dance and music and more.

As an intern, I worked with a cohort of interns to create free, accessible arts activities for students and campus.
From creating promotional materials to planning events to day-of organizing, I helped run a series of in-person events, including an intern-led event called Bring Home Spring, a free suncatcher activity.
I furthermore worked to develop a spring arts exhibition for the Associated Students of UCI, called Daydreams in Bloom 2025. This required critical event planning, outreach initiatives, and, finally, serving as an arts judge.
My intern cohort also produced Zot Zine 2025 as a final project. Through organizing art submissions to a final physical production, the Zot Zine was a successful project that celebrates local artistic talent found at UCI.

During my year-long internship, I collaborated on 9 campus-wide events, resulting in a combined attendance of 500+ participants. These events reached a wide audience, bringing accessible and exciting arts activities to the campus community.
Furthermore, the Zot Zine became the first UCI online art magazine, featuring over 25 artists, with pages I hand-designed and edited.

Zot Zine 2025
ASUCI Art Lab presents its annual spring exhibition, Daydreams in Bloom. This exhibition featured a variety of student art, including writing, traditional and digital visual art, and photography. The goal of this show was to highlight not only student art but also unconventionality in art. The exhibition drew 166 attendees, and 20+ artworks were featured.
As an intern on this show, I helped organize and set up the exhibition, and I also served as a student judge.
